TheraStretch is a wearable technology concept designed to guide and time static stretching using an embedded conductive rubber cord. By detecting stretch thresholds and holding duration, the product allows users to accurately measure and maintain a stretch for a set period of time—without manually counting or relying on a phone. Audio and visual feedback provide real-time guidance and can be programmed to support progressive flexibility improvement over time.
Static stretching involves holding a muscle in an elongated position and is most effective post-workout, when muscles are warm and more capable of increasing in length. This practice helps improve mobility and range of motion, supports faster recovery, reduces next-day stiffness, and relieves stress and tension. Research suggests that holding a stretch continuously for up to 90 seconds delivers greater benefits than shorter, interrupted intervals, making precise timing a key component of effective stretching.

The wearable stretch timer's potential is endless in the training environment. Combining existing static stretches with functional potential of the wearable device, the use can measure their stretching time with any lump. Focusing on pinpointing certain muscle groups is possible.
Design Driven by Logic

Once the device is powered on and worn, the user initiates a static stretch of their choice. When the predefined stretch threshold is reached, the internal timer begins, the LED illuminates, and the device provides a steady, medium-pitched vibration to indicate proper engagement. As long as the stretch is held within the target range, the feedback continues, guiding the user through the duration of the stretch.
Refined Recovery

Once the proof of concept was completed, it became obvious to evolve the product beyond function and into a form that aligned with the visual brand language of the Therabody ecosystem. Designing within this established aesthetic ensured the product felt cohesive with existing Therabody offerings, reinforcing brand recognition, trust, and a unified user experience. This step helped position the concept not as a standalone experiment, but as a natural extension of Therabody’s premium, performance-driven brand.
Driven by Process

The design process began with exploratory sketching in Procreate to establish form, proportion, and key details. From there, Vizcom’s AI visualization tool was used in collaboration with Adobe Photoshop to refine surfaces, materials, and lighting, resulting in the final rendered concept shown.
